Individual Psychotherapy & Group Facilitation
My career in mental health spans over 25 years. I began working in community based mental health working with adults coping with chronic mental health issues where I learned the importance of meeting people where they are, and discovered that regardless of the issues a person is facing there is a spark within that can be nourished. I later enjoyed the opportunity to offer personal development groups for women before investing full time in my private practice as a psychologist working with adults and adolescents.
Philosophy: I believe that people are fundamentally resilient and within the context of a supportive, safe relationship, they can develop an understanding of their patterns, recognize their strengths and acknowledge and heal from the wounds they have. Growth comes from self knowledge, compassion and learning new coping skills to help move forward.
Theoretical framework: I have an eclectic approach to therapy drawing most extensively from Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural, Humanistic, Systems, Feminist, and Mindfulness perspectives.
Specialized approaches: Alongside traditional “talk therapy” I find my clients also benefit when we work with Relaxation training ( progressive relaxation, visualization), and Mindfulness Meditation.
Specialties: In my practice I help clients who are experiencing a wide variety of issues. I have developed a special expertise in working with Trauma (PTSD, Complex PTSD), Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Grief, Self Esteem, and Relationship issues.
